VESICOVAGINAL FISTULA; New trends and management.An experience of 25 cases in Gynae B Unit of Ayub Teaching Hospital Abbottabad

Vesicovaginal Fistula is an abnormal communication between urinary bladder and vagina leading to true incontinence it has remained a challenge for both the patients due to distressing symptoms of continuous urinary leakage as well as the surgeon regarding success of repair. Study Design: Retrospective Study. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted over a period of 5 years from Jan 2011 to Dec 2015. A total of 25 cases were repaired after complete evaluation of the patient with detailed history examination and investigations After repair the results were evaluated over next three months. Results: Out of these 25 cases 16(64%) were due to Obstetric trauma 10(40%) cases after obstructed labor 2(8%) cases after VBAC with scar dehiscence and bladder damage ,2(8%) after bladder damage due to placenta previa percreta involving the bladder seven (28%) cases occurred after total abdominal hysterectomy for gynae problems two cases presented with repeat VBF due to bladder stone one case ( 4%) ended in failure in which there was a compound fistula involving the bladder and ureter. Conclusions: VBF is common obstratic complication in our part of the country as in other developing countries the rate after hysterectomy is also on a rise as the time is passing by.
