Context: Understanding the reasons behind women's satisfaction with COCs might be a means of improving persistence of a COC. Objective: To assess factors that contribute to COC satisfaction; also, to obtain socio-demographic and other characteristics of COC users. Methods: Non-comparative, non-interventional, descriptive study conducted in France; data were collected from a 51-question online self-assessment questionnaire. Patients: Sexually active women, age 18-35 years, on COCs with no prior time limit. Interventions: Nomegestrol acetate 2.5mg and estradiol 1.5mg (NOMAC/E2; Zoely®), or levonorgestrel 100μg and ethinyl estradiol 20μg (LNG/EE; Leeloo Ge®). Main Outcome Measures: Satisfaction with NOMAC/E2 vs LNG/EE. Results: A total of 2,065 women were included (NOMAC/E2 n=504; LNG/EE n=1,561). The majority of NOMAC/E2 and LNG/EE users reported being satisfied (86% and 75%, respectively [“satisfied” plus “very satisfied”]). The main reasons for satisfaction for NOMAC/E2 were efficacy (79%), convenience (65%), and acceptable price (47%), and for LNG/EE were absence of adverse events (71%), efficacy (52%), and acceptable price (48%). NOMAC/E2 users were more satisfied with their general wellbeing than LNG/EE users (83% vs 69%, respectively) and they believed that their current pill contributed to their wellbeing (78% vs 24%). NOMAC/E2 users were slightly older on average than LNG/EE users (27 and 25 years, respectively). More NOMAC/E2 users reported having a higher education (71% and 52%, respectively), having a full time job (64% and 41%), being a non-smoker (80% and 65%), being a first-time contraceptive user (88% and 61%), and having never been pregnant (80% and 75%) compared to LNG/EE users. Conclusions: NOMAC/E2 and LNG/EE users reported satisfaction, driven in large part by factors such as efficacy, convenience, absence of adverse events, and acceptable price.
